Adamawa State Government has dismissed the allegation of discrimination against Christian minorities in the State made by a group “Christian Elders Forum of Northern States”.
Reacting to the allegation, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Ahmad Sajoh, described the claim as false and a clear indication that the group has motives other than the promotion of peace and peaceful co-existence in our state.
According to him, the assertion was totally at variance with realities on ground in Adamawa State.
Sajoh, also posited that the concerns remain baseless, unless so called elders want to add their voice to the over politicization of Religion as witnessed recently in the country.
The Governor’s Media aide explained his rebuttal of the allegation thus:
“The term Christian minorities is a misnomer in Adamawa State because we have 21 Local Government Areas and about 1/3 are predominantly Moslem populated, about 1/3 predominantly Christian dominated while the remaining 1/3 have nearly equal populations of both.
“The first 8 years of the current democratic dispensation had a Christian Governor in the State.
“The first four years of Murtala Nyako’s leadership had a Christian Deputy Governor and a Christian Speaker of the House of Assembly as well the Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service all being Christians.
“We have 8 first class Traditional Rulers in Adamawa State. 4 are Muslims and 4 are Christians. They also have heavy influence on land matters.
“On the points raised by the group, we wish to respond to them as follows:
There is no discrimination what so ever against any group in Adamawa State under the leadership of the APC Government of Admiral Murtala Nyako.
“We are not aware of any outstanding C-of-O of any Christian group in Adamawa state. As a matter of fact Governor Murtala Nyako had even given his personal piece of land to a Christian group while serving as Governor.
“Both the Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Drambi Ngidda and the Commissioner of Education Mr. Gabriel Hamman Adama are devoted Christians who will never superintend over a system that discriminates any group in the Education sector.
“That the education policy of Adamawa State is and remains the same under the current democratic dispensation from 1999 when a Christian was Governor to date”.
