Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, has said that seven people have died so far since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Governor Sule disclosed this in his opening remark at an expanded COVID-19 stakeholders meeting held in the government house in Lafia, on Thursday.
He expressed concern over the rising cases of coronavirus in Karu and Keffi LGAs, which he blamed on their proximity Abuja.
“Karu alone has 76 confirmed cases , Keffi 30 and Lafia 24, others do not have a lot of cases while Keana, Toto and Wamba Local Government Areas are yet to record any confirmed case,” he stated.
According to him, it is for that reason the task force committee decided to sit and deliberate on the way forward to contain the spread of the virus in Nasarawa state.
“We need to review the situation in today’s meeting, because neighboring Karu to Abuja and Keffi have over 100 confirmed cases” he said.
The governor confirmed that 177 cases have been recorded so far, out of which 87 have been discharged, 53 people are yet to recover and are still receiving treatment while 30 are about to be transferred to isolation centers in the state for commencement of treatment.
Present at the meeting were members of the state Task Force Committee on COVID 19, security chiefs in the state, religious leaders and relevant stakeholders.
