The Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC) in Oyo State in collaboration with a firm, Crime Alert Security, on Friday donated some food items to the police command in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that food items donated for distribution to officers below the rank of Inspector included rice, beans and eggs.
Speaking at the presentation, Peter Omofoye, the State Chairman of PCRC, said the items were worth N650,000.
He said the gesture would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the pandemic, especially among junior officers.
The PCRC chairman appealed to other organisations to emulate the gesture in order to motivate the officers.
He commended Mr Shina Olukolu, the Commissioner of Police in the state, for supporting the PCRC in the task of achieving its mandate.
Receiving the items, Olukolu expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting that PCRC in Oyo State had been doing its best in ensuring security in the state.
“Now that we have issue of COVID-19 pandemic and every other person is being taken care of in terms of palliatives, they (PCRC) deemed it fit that the police too who are also on the frontline require some form of assistance.
“Consequently they brought these food items and I want to appreciate the committee on behalf of the Nigerian Police, Oyo State Command for the gesture.” Olukolu stated.
The commissioner further acknowledged the PCRC as the first institution outside of government that had remembered the police.
Three of the beneficiaries, Aishat Eriaremhen, Esther Ahmed and Christiana Olalekan, all expressed gratitude over the gesture
