The Nasarawa State Government has intercepted over 200 people that came into the state from high risk states and placed them on isolation in Lafia, the state capital.
This was revealed in a COVID-19 task force committee meeting held at the government house in Lafia.
Speaking, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim A. Kana revealed that over 200 people have been intercepted at the Nasarawa borders.
“We want to inform you that in less than two weeks alone, the combination of security agencies in Nasarawa State, under the chairmanship of the state commissioner of police, have intercepted not less than 200 individuals who have infiltrated into Nasarawa State from different areas that have confirmed cases.”
He stated that “these individuals have mostly been rounded up and taken to a retention center which has been established within the premises of the state polytechnic in Lafia, before they are released.
The commissioner said that “They are kept there for a period and tested to ensure that they are not infected before they are released.“
“ So far, non of these individuals intercepted after infiltrating the state from areas with confirmed cases has tested positive. Most of them have tested negative or have not shown signs of infection yet.
Also present at the meeting, the Nasarawa state commissioner of Police, Mr Ademola Emmanuel Longe reiterated the security agency’s stand on ensuring strict adherence to laws.
“ We have arrested more than 490 persons already, and we are going to keep arresting more persons who do not follow instructions”.
He advised everyone planning on coming into the state to remain where they are as all exit points In Nasarawa state will fully secured. “No body is allowed to come in except essential workers,” he warned.
