The Nasarawa State Government, has lauded compliance with the ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the state.
Mr Dogo Shammah, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, made this remark on Friday in Lafia after going round the state capital to monitor the level of compliance.
According to him, going round the state capital from Makurdi, Shendam and Jos roads, the level of compliance especially by the tricycles is total.
He said that based on the available reports with the government, the compliance was effective across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
The commissioner noted that the ban was aimed at containing the spread of coronavirus pandrmic and not to punish or cause hardship to the people.
Shammah urged members of the public to sustain the compliance in their best interest.
He attributed the success recorded to the awareness by the government through the media and the role played by traditional rulers and other stakeholders.
The commissioner also lauded security agencies for working round the clock to enforce compliance and advised them to do more.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Abdullahi Sule had announced a ban on motorcycles and tricycles effective from April 24.
The governor noted that commercial motorcycles and tricycles were sabotaging the efforts of the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Sule added that they were conveying people from other states that had recorded confirmed cases of the virus in spite of the curfew in Karu and restriction of movement in parts of the state.
NAN also reports that although no confirmed case of COVID-19 has been recorded in the state, government has, however, taken some preventive measures due to its proximity to Abuja, Kaduna and Benue with some confirmed cases.
