The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has set up an 18-member COVID-19 pandemic welfare committee.
The NBA president, Paul Usoro, SAN, announced this on Friday, on the official NBA twitter handle.
Usoro said members of the committee are: Dr Olawale Babalakin,SAN, as the chairman, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde,SAN, Vice Chairman, Miannaya Essien(SAN) , Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, Solomon Umoh, SAN, Dr Garba Tertengi, SAN, Mrs Victoria Awomolo,SAN, Slyva Ogwemoh,SAN, and Ibrahim Muhammed,SAN, as members.
Others members are: Emeka Etiaba,SAN, Nba E. Ukweni,SAN, Steven Adehi, SAN, Olabode Olanipekun,SAN, Tuduru Ede,SAN. Mr Theophulus T. Igba, Emeka Anosike, Joshua Usman while Ewenode Onoriode would serve as Committee Secretary.
Usoro said the broad function of the welfare committee was constituted as set out in Section 2(h) pursuant to Section 12 of the NBA constitution and it shall be headed by Dr Olawale Babalakin(SAN).
According to the president, the mandate of the committee is to focus immediate attention and activities on raising funds from our members and other public-spirited persons.
“The funds will be utilised to provide succour to vulnerable and deprived members who are affected by the lockdown.
“Apart from raising funds, the committee would work with me in designing the most equitable and integrity-proof model for identifying the genuinely needy beneficiaries of the relief materials,” he stated.
He also said that part of the committee responsibility would also be, to determine the kind of the relief material that should be like, either, in cash or food items or combination of the two or any other form.
Usoro however, appreciated members of the committee for accepting to serve the Association and members in this time of pandemic and assured them of his full support.
