The Chief of Staff (CoS) to Badagry Local Government Chairman, Mr Lateef Yahaya, on Saturday donated food items and sanitisers to some widows, aged and vulnerable residents of Badagry area of Lagos State.
Yahaya told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry that the donation was part of his efforts to support the vulnerable Badagry residents at this trying period of Coronavirus pandemic.
He said that his aim was to provide succour to the vulnerable ones in order to see them through any hardship that might be caused by the government’s directive of stay-at-home.
The chairman’s aide said that his main targets were the widows, aged people and residents who come from rural areas to the market daily in search of their livelihood.
According to him, some people cannot eat daily without coming to do menial jobs in the market, the support package will help them to survive the hardships created by this lockdown.
“We have about 150 communities here in Badagry, and there are some people living in these communities that unless they come to Badagry daily they can’t feed themselves.
“Our targets are widows, and aged men and women who depend on their relatives to survive.
“These are the set of people that will be most affected by this stay-at-home directive by the Federal Government.
“We are targeting over 4,000 residents of the three local governments in Badagry.
“We have identified them from Itoga to Vrekete; from Apa to Owode; from Gbaji to Seme and from Ibereko down to Imeke and Ajido.
“My men will reach them with the little we have to complement the efforts of the Lagos State Government and others,’’ he said.
Yahaya, who is a former Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant under APC, urged elected officers in Badagry to come out and assist the people at this crucial period.
“I am appealing to philanthropists in Badagry and elected office holders to assist our people at this stay-at-home period to alleviate the sufferings they might be experiencing now.
“This is the time to rise up and save residents of Badagry in your little way; our people are not used to this stay-at-home, but it is circumstances beyond their control,” he said.
Yahaya urged the residents to abide by all the regulations put down by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Federal Government in order to get rid of the virus.
According to him, it is a total compliance to all the directives by both the Federal Government and the LASG that can save us from COVID-19 pandemic.
“The only way to curb this pandemic is to stay at home and follow the governments’ instructions.
“Many countries that have got rid of COVID-19 had to follow those instructions that we are following now, that is why I want my good people of Badagry to do likewise,” Yahaya said.
