The Federal Government has ordered closure of all Government offices and schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja from Wednesday, May 7 to Friday 9, 2014.
A statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, states that the closure is part of the arrangements to ensure a successful hosting of the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF).
The Capital City, Abuja is hosting the World Economic Forum (WEF) Africa and over 900 delegates, including 10 foreign Heads of State are expected to attend.
The closure of government offices mostly located in the Central Business District of the Capital City, Anyim said would enable free flow of traffic and movement of participants during the conference.
Ayim’s statement reads, “This is to inform the general public that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has approved, as part of arrangements for the successful hosting of the World Economic Forum Africa, that all Government Offices and Schools in the Federal Capital Territory, expect those on essential services, are to be closed from Wednesday, 7th to Friday, 9th May, 2014.
“Private Organisations with large number of staff may also wish to close down.
“This is to ease the flow of traffic within the city and enable participants carry out their assigned roles and participate actively at the World Economic Forum Africa”.
