President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the FCT Administration to make available three districts for workers Housing Scheme in the Federal Capital Territory.
The FCT Minister, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, made this disclosure on Thursday at the occasion of the 2014 Workers Day Celebration at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The Minister further disclosed that the provision of this affordable housing for workers in the Federal Capital Territory would be in collaboration with the Organized Private Sector for quick result.
Mohammed paid tribute to President Jonathan saying that “Mr. President has commissioned more workers’ housing estates in the life of this nation”.
According to him, “two affordable housing districts have already been allocated to deserving estate developers and staff cooperatives among others”.
The Minister recalled that recently, the FCT Administration allocated 200 plots of land to eligible staff as part of ‘Long Service Award’ to reward faithful officers of the FCTA who have served meritoriously.
“Pursuant to this, a plan is underway to institutionalize the Award as a policy in the Federal Capital Territory Administration,” he added.
He assured that the FCT Administration had been working assiduously to boost workers moral through various welfare and incentives.
His words: “It is also noteworthy that measures have been put in place to stem the congestion being experienced in the health care delivering facilities occasioned by influx of people into the Territory”.
The Minister pledged the determination of his Administration to continue to explore ways to create an enabling environment for workers to give in their best to build a nation where peace and justice reign.
Responding, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Abdulwaheed Omar expressed the workers appreciation to President Jonathan and the FCT Minister for allocating 600 hectares of land in a choice location exclusively for their housing needs.
Omar commended President and congratulated the FCT Minister for driving peoples oriented programme with positive impact on the lives of the workers.
He appealed to Jonathan to find time out of his busy schedule to perform the ground breaking of one of the social housing schemes for the workers in Abuja.
