Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, Flamingos this evening hit hapless Guinea’s Syli Starlets 5-1 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup African qualifier return leg first round match played at Agege stadium in Lagos.
Nigeria had a fortnight ago beaten Guinea 6-1 away in Conakry in the first leg tie and has thus qualified for the final round on 11-2 goals aggregate.
Flamingos goals today were scored by Rufiat Imuran in the 27′ while Taiwo Lawal scored a brace in the 34′ and 41′ to end the first half 3-0.
On resumption Nigeria went in search of more goals but it was the Guineans who scored in the 56′ through a Dede Diallo well taken penalty.
This gingered the Nigerian girls to attack their opponents and almost immediately got the 4th goal by substitute Alvine Dah-Zossu. And the ovation barely died down when impressive Chinyere Kalu curled a free-kick from 25 meters out to beat Cherif Haidara in goal for Guinea for Flamingos 5th goal towards the end of the match.
Although Nigeria’s Olamide Bolaji was given the red card in the dot of 45′, Flamingos played all the second half with one player down and still won convincingly.
