The Jigawa Government has introduced a Contributory Health Care Scheme for civil servants under the state and local governments payrolls.
Dr Mahmud Abdulwahab, Director Programmes, state Contributory Health Care Management Agency, disclosed this in Hadejia on Wednesday, at a one-day advocacy meeting with 80 union leaders drawn from Jigawa Northeast Zone.
He said the scheme was introduced to enhance access to health care services delivery for the state civil servants and their dependents.
Abdulwahab said that under the scheme, there would be a deduction of N4,000 from the salaries of each worker on Grade Level (GL) 14 and above.
He said the state would deduct 3,000 from each worker on GL 10-13; N2,000 from worker on GL 7-9 and 1,000 from worker on GL 1-6.
The director said the scheme covers a contributor with his or her five dependents to access health care services free on a visit to a health facility.
Abdulwahab said registration for contributors would commence soon, urging the union leaders to mobilize their members for successful implementation of the scheme.
Earlier, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, Director Planning in the agency, said deductions for the scheme would commence in March.
He, however, said the service delivery would commence in June after the agency must have garnered enough funds for the take off of the scheme.
On behalf of the participants, Alhaji Aminu Tafida, National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Chairman for Mallammadori Council, assured that they would relay the information to workers in their areas. (NAN)
