Determined to motivate the national U-17 women’s football team, Flamingos to beat their opponents, Guinea in this weekend’s first leg of the first round FIFA Women’s World Cup India 2020 African qualifiers away in Conakry, Elder Bitrus Bewarang has donated the sum of N10, 000 to the team for defeating Abuja Academy Boys 3-1 in Abuja last night.
Bewarang who addressed the team after the match at the Abuja National Stadium practice pitch commended the players for the victory over an enterprising boys team and urged the players to remain very focussed.
“I am very impressed with your individual and collective performances today (Saturday). I want encourage you girls to go to Guinea at the weekend to beat them. I urge you to Imbibe the Spirit of Nigeria which is doggedness. Go out there to show that you are Nigerians by winning your games”, Bewarang admonished the players.
The veteran football coach and administrator reminded this class of Flamingos that their immediate predecessors failed to qualify for the last FIFA U- Women’s World Cup in 2018 hence they must work hard to pick the World Cup ticket this time around.
The NFF top brass assured Flamingos of the Federation’s support to achieve the expected results, adding that ” the NFF President and the General Secretary are working hard to ensure that the welfare of the team is met”.
Bewarang therefore donated a sum of N10, 000 to Flamingos as a token of his appreciation for the team’s performance in their 3-1 win over Abuja Academy Boys in a test match.
Replying on behalf of the team, goalkeeper and Captain, Nelly Chukwu promised the NFF and entire nation that Flamingos will not disappoint them.
Other NFF officials who were with Bewarang at the occasion are two Assistant Directors- Abdulrafiu Yusuf and Siji Olagunju and Harry Awurumibe, Special Assistant to the NFF President on Women’s Football Affairs.
