The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), says it plans to organise mass immunisation campaign, as Africa move closer to eradicating Wild Polio Virus (WPV) from its shores.
Dr Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director, NPHCDA, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday in Abuja.
Shuaib said that in order to reach the last mile, states in the country would be made to continue with comprehensive mop up activities to vaccinate children missed during previous exercise.
He said that immunisation was the most cost-effective way to save children lives and improve their health condition to ensure long-term prosperity.
He, however, said that the four day February National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs), that took place in all the 36 states and FCT ended on Feb. 18, 2020.
“Close to 56 million under five children were vaccinated, following reports of massive turnout in states and FCT.
“The exercise has demonstrated the capacity of our ever ready staff and stakeholders,” he said.
The NPHCDA boss said that the agency was committed to achieving high quality National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs), as Nigeria move closer to WPV eradication and certification.
He advised parents to ensure that their children were fully immunised at health centres across the country to ensure total eradication of polio in Nigeria.
