National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says it has disbursed N7.7 million as grant to 770 petty women traders in Jigawa.
Mr Abubakar Jamo, NDE Coordinator in the state, made disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Dutse.
Jamo disclosed that the grant was disbursed to the beneficiaries under the directorate’s Micro Enterprise Enhancement Scheme (MEES), noting that each of the 770 beneficiaries received N10, 000 to enable them to expand their businesses.
He explained that the grant was disbursed in three phases at Gumel, Hadejia and Kazaure Local Government areas of the state, respectively.
The coordinator said that 270 women were selected from each of the 27 local government areas of the state under the first phase of the exercise while 500 others benefited under the second phase in Hadejia and Kazaure.
Jamo noted that the gesture was to enable the beneficiaries enhance their Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs), to enable them contribute meaningfully to their families and encourage sustainable social and economic development of the state.
The coordinator urged the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilization of the money and engage in productive ventures. (NAN)
