Godwin Kingsley, Lafia Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has convened a peace meeting with Elders and Leaders of Tiv communities to find a lasting solution to the incessant crisis in the state.
The meeting which was held at the Government House Lafia on Friday had traditional rulers and relevant stakeholders of Tiv extraction in attendance.
While giving a prologue for the meeting, Governor Al-Makura said the meeting was apt to discuss on how to put an end to the incessant crisis between Tiv farmers and Fulani Herdsmen adding that modalities would also be put in place to ensure that the displaced farmers return to their places of abode.
“I think it is high time we handle this matter frontally and find ways in which they can go back to their homes.
“Everybody knows that an average Tiv man is not a lazy man. They are farmers and if they don’t
go back to their homes, food scarcity may loom owing to the fact that this part of the country is regarded as the food basket of the nation,” he said.
The governor also expressed hope that as a result of the meeting peace and normalcy would return to the affected areas in the state.
