It was a weekend of long knives as many countries suffered humiliating defeats in front of their home fans with Botswana’s U-20 women’s football team going to President Sam Nujoma stadium in Windhoek to thrash their Namibian opponents 7-0 today in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica /Panama 2020 preliminary round first leg qualifying match.
If that result was not frightening enough, Algeria’s U-20 women’s team traveled to Kampala, Uganda today to wallop South Sudan 5-0 just as Liberia made the home advantage to count by beating Guinea 3- 0.
Also today in far away Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian U-20 women’s team battled hard to edge Uganda 2-1 to have the bragging rights before the return leg in a fortnight.
Yesterday, Ethiopia’s U-20 women’s team went goals crazy as they massacred their host, Burundi 5-0 in Bujumbura to put fears in the minds of even their next round opponents even when the second leg has not been played in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
South Africa also made their experience to count in Lusaka where they beat neighbours, Zambia 2-0 in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica /Panama 2020 preliminary round first leg qualifying match.
