Dear Mr President,
I hope that this letter meets you well and level-headed, because the issues that beset our dear country are enough to leave you exasperated. I hope and pray, also, that this letter meets you when you are doing what, one governor suggests, is church hopping. Do not mind him at all, because the best place to be in times like this is before the presence of God, with the ravages perpetrated by sons of the devil for whom has been reserved the hottest part of hell.
Never mind such snide remarks from men whose fellows spend quality time in worship houses at least three times a day on working days, during working hours, and the rest of us who have official business to transact are advised to wait until they return from the mosques. But that is for those of them who take Allah serious. For the unserious one like that suddenly-pious governor, they do not bother to observe the required prayer times because they think their brilliance will make a way for them; so, they do not need the help of Allah to surmount the heaps of problem and corruption that beset Lagos State, where another pretender has been robbing the State blind while the loquacious god-son acts as an abettor.
On the violence that has been rocking the country, your Excellency, some of us have come to the conclusion that only Heaven, working through security forces can solve the problem; so, please, keep praying to God. Do it genuinely and do not, for once, let anybody give you the impression that all is well. At the appropriate time, all those involved in this carnage will face the wrath of the Father of the spirits of all flesh. They can never escape His judgment; neither can they postpone it a day longer than ordained. God arrives on time.
Since we are still in the religious mood, Sir, I crave your indulgence to speak about that young man who attempted to bomb an American plane sometime ago for what he termed a job for Allah. To be sure, it is not the Allah we know that sent him. He was programmed from childhood to carry out that dastardly act. Why, you may ask, sir? The answer lies in his progenitor who claimed he trained his son well and went through an elaborate scheme to prove his innocence with the help of some security chiefs who are still in government.
Sir, have you bothered to ask them, your security chiefs, that as the young man was growing, whose portrait adorned his family house? Some close family sources say it is that of an Ayatollah. Also, sir, do not believe that story that it was that former governor of Kwara State that gave the former dishonest CBN governor his job. Why? Who was rumored to have taken the former CBN chief under his tutelage and contributed to his Masters training in Sudan? How come he came into that “wise man’s bank” when someone was the Chairman of the board? How come he followed that someone to “truly the first”? And when that someone left his last bank and persuaded his Katsina brother, who was running Nigeria when you were number two, this character became CBN chief? Do you remember the first fundamental act of the character that rocked the country, Sir? It was to issue a license for an Islamic bank to his banking godfather that is today being used for some nefarious activities. Please investigate.
While you are at it, your Excellency, investigate why this same quiet but deadly godfather got a multi-billion naira contract to build infrastructure for a whole district in Abuja with the connivance of your boys, especially that one that is rumored to be a favorite of your wife, and who wants to be a governor in a north-eastern state of Nigeria. Oga, please shine your eyes, because you are surrounded by ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Please ignore that leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), who, commenting on the Nyanya bombing in his own newspaper, where professionalism has gone to the dogs, said that the shedding of blood has continued because your administration has not devised a grand strategy against this menace, either locally or internationally. He knows more than he is telling because he is in bed with his former contemporary in Abuja, the CBN “disgrace”, and others.
According to him, “It is another gloomy chapter not only for families, but it reinforces the fear and vulnerability of Nigerians. I condemn in the strongest terms the Nyanya bombings and the violent attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram. The killings are detestable, especially those of students and other innocent Nigerians. All peace loving Nigerians must condemn this mindless slaughter in the strongest of terms. No religion, Islam or Christianity, condones the killings of innocent lives for which there can be no justification.
“I call upon the law enforcement agencies and the President to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to book. The Jonathan Presidency must do all in its powers and within the ambit of the law to halt the Boko Haram nightmare.” How come he was so categorical that it was Boko Haram, when even the group had not taken credit? Does he know what we do not know, or is it true that a Boko Haram has been cloned by politicians and some of their friends to serve a purpose?
This self-styled leader, who actually dethroned a former Vice President as the leader of the opposition, said the tempo and consistency of attacks suggest that this government’s approach is not only wrong, but also wrongheaded. Read him: “For how long shall we cry over the failure of intelligence and misuse of military deployments? For how long shall we weep over the avoidable deaths, loss of talents and gloom in Nigerian homes? When the story of this generation is told, who shall escape responsibility for the mammoth human lives and resources lost to the slaughter?
“This morning’s bomb blast in Yanyan, Abuja, and the mindless deaths is dastardly. It is an indictment of the Jonathan government. My heart bleeds for our people and the country over the deaths in Yanyan. A government (that is) unable to protect its citizens deserves to be queried.
“As a country, we are united in grief over the Nyanya attacks, but as a people, we must rise up to demand this government provides better security. Nigeria’s security outlook is depressing; the unending attacks suggest a failure of intelligence. Government must rethink its strategy now. On matters of security, the buck stops at the President’s table. Like in other countries, Jonathan is the Chief Security Officer; just as Jonathan laps up praises, he must bear responsibility and accept blame over Boko Haram’s deadly attacks.”
While I agree with him that more should be done, I am wondering why himself, GMB, and others in their train who, I strongly suspect, have been using the north-east as their launching pad for making the country ungovernable just to get power, have not used all their brilliant ideas to stop the carnage there since the party controls the three notorious States.
Mr. President, Sir, while I urge you to continue going to church to report people and matters to God, please do the necessary as commander-in-chief to ensure we are secure. Even your God expects you to do that with all He has put at your disposal. At the same time, fight corruption, even among your own people, to the ground. And if I may ask, what is Abba Moro still doing around you? Thank you, sir, for reading me, and have a swell presidential tenure.
