By Harry Awurumibe, Head, Abuja Bureau The removal of the erstwhile Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Mr. Babatunde Fowler from office today (Monday) by President Muhammadu Buhari has elicited wide jubilation in the offices of the revenue service across the nation.
Prompt News Online can confirm that some staffers of FIRS across the country especially those at the corporate headquarters, Wuse Zone 5 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, Enugu, Kaduna among others are celebrating the news of the removal of the former boss.
An Assistant Manager at the Wuse Zone 5 office who wants to remain anonymous revealed that FIRS staffers across the nation are jubilating over the high-handedness of their former chairman.
It was also learnt from another staff in the FIRS Lagos office who does not want her name in prints that staffers have endured a torrid times under the erstwhile boss whom they accused of taking unilateral decisions for fours including the recruitment of new staff without following due process.
They alleged that a good number of the staff especially people at the top management cadre were either transferred to some remote areas or forced to resign their appointments.
Meanwhile, the President has nominated a renowned tax consultant, Muhammad M. Nami as the new chairman subject to the confirmation of the Senate.
The board is composed of a member representing each of the six geographical zones and statutory representatives from a select number of ministries and government agencies.
