Ministry of Sports and Youth Development is to send a Draft Bill for the domestication of the International Conventional Against Doping in Sports.
This was disclosed today (Wednesday) in Abuja by the Information and Culture minister, Lai Mohammed while briefing State House Correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings presided over by the Vice President Professor Yemi Osibanjo.
Mohammed who said that Sports minister, Hon. Sunday Dare told presented a Memoranda to FEC seeking the approval to send a
Draft Bill for the domestication of the International Convention Against Doping in Sports to the National Assembly.
According to him Nigeria has been a signatory to the convention against doping in Sports since 2005 but it has not been domesticated in Nigeria hence the minister (Sunday Dare) is seeking approval for a Draft Bill for the domestication of the International Conventional Against Doping in Sports.
Said he, “Nigeria is among over 180 countries that have signed up to the convention but we have not domesticated it so that it will be applicable to Nigeria . So what Council did today was to give the approval for the Draft Bill to be sent to the National Assembly to now do the needful.
“One of the advantages of the Bill is that it confers on us (Nigeria) more recognition, honour and respect to Nigeria”.
