The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Plateau State Council, on Thursday commended the good leadership style and labour relations of the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, Prof. Yohana Izam. The Chairman of the council, Mr Eugene Manji, who led a delegation of the council on a courtesy visit to the vice chancellor, described his leadership qualities as “very unique “ and “inspiring,” according to a statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr John Agam.Agam said the delegation expressed gladness over the transformation being witnessed in the institution under Prof. Izam.“Your good leadership style and robust labour relations initiative, which are responsible for the ongoing transformation, staff development and welfare programmes initiated are very unique and inspiring.“We acknowledge the positive transformation being experienced in PLASU in recent times.“We hereby wish to sue for the sustenance and widening of the scope of mutual understanding and collaboration between Management and the labour unions in the University in order to further consolidate on the gains of human resources and physical infrastructure development.“This is because it has greatly impacted positively on the ongoing phenomenal growth being experienced in the university, “ the NLC Chairman said.Prof. Izam assured the union of his desire and resolute commitment to properly reposition the University to enable it to serve as a rubicon and pivot for the socio- political and economic development of the state. He maintained that human resource development, the welfare of staff and students and infrastructure development of the University would continue to take the centre stage of his administration.“This is aimed at putting behind us the chequered history of the University, which is now hurrying to carve a niche for itself as a citadel of reckoning both locally, nationally and internationally, “ he said.Izam thanked the NLC delegation for the visit and their interest in the university’s affairs. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the visit ended up on a very positive note with the immediate suspension of the two month old strike action embarked upon by JAC of the University. They observed that an improved management of labour activities would greatly help in avoiding unnecessary industrial tensions which is inimical to the progress and vision of the University.
