Nigeria defender Efe Ambrose says he is open to a sensational return to the Scottish league after promising stints with Celtic and Hibernian.
Efe, 30, is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Sky Bet Championship club Derby County at the end of last season.
The former Celtic player has already turned down a number of lucrative offers because it wasn’t right for him and his family.
But he reveals that a return to Scotland is something that would have an appeal.
“I would never say never about the possibility of coming back to Scottish football,” Ambrose told dailyrecord.co. uk.
“It is a great place to play football and I feel the Scottish league is growing and getting better.
“The standing and reputation of the league is growing and there is a real profile to it with the likes of Neil Lennon and Steven Gerrard now at Celtic and Rangers. “I have had some great times in Scotland. My times there, with Celtic and Hibs, were amongst the best of my career and if there was interest there then it is something I would definitely consider.”
Ambrose , who was part of the Super Eagles side that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt also insists his next move is not just about money.
“I have had some offers. I had a big-money offer from Turkey that would have seen me earn more than I did at Celtic but it just didn’t feel right,” he added.
“I want a club to make sure the move is right for my family and for me at this stage in my career.”
The centre-half is currently in Nigeria, but has been keeping himself fit by turning out for his local side, Narayi Celtic Kaduna, who were formed after his own spell at Parkhead.
“I have been training every day with my local team back in Nigeria and playing in friendly games,” Ambrose stated.
“So when I get my next move sorted, I will be ready to hit the ground running and to be able to get up to speed very quickly. That was the problem when I went to Derby last season.”
