The police on Tuesday, arraigned a 33-year old businessman Chinedu Nwangiri, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, over alleged breach of trust and cheating
Nwangiri, who works at Chisco Transport Park, Utako, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecutor, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that the matter was reported by one Clifford Odiche of Ahmadu Ali Cresent, Utako Abuja, at the Utako Police Station on Aug. 21.
Ukagha alleged that the defendant fraudulently failed to convey Odiche’s goods valued at N58, 000 from Abuja to Portharcourt, after collecting N2, 500 as way bill charge.
Ukagha told the court that the defendant allegedly converted the goods to his personal use and all efforts to recover the goods and the N2, 500 from him were in vain.
The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant could not provide satisfactory account of the goods during police interrogation.
She said the offence contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a reliable surety in like sum.
He ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until Sept. 25 for further hearing.
