Nigerian champions Enyimba zoomed into the first round of the CAF Champions League in style on Sunday, while the country’s other flag bearers, Kano Pillars have been eliminated from the competition.
Enyimba thrashed Burkinabe club, Rahimo FC 5-0 inside the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba to scale through 5-1 on aggregate having lost the away leg two weeks ago 1-0.
Former Sunshine Stars winger, Stanley Dimgba and Reuben Bala got a a brace for the Peoples Elephant in the game with substitute, Stanley Okorom scoring the other goal.
The visitors played majority of the game with 10- men after Issouf was sent off for a dangerous foul on Emmamuel Ampiah.
The two-time African champions will face the winner of Rwanda’s Rayon Sports and Al Hilal of Sudan tie in the second round.
The first leg in Aba will hold between September 13 and 15 with the reverse fixture two weeks later.
At the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, Kano Pillars fell to a 2-0 loss to their hosts Asante Kotoko of Ghana.
The Sai Masu Gida exited the competition 4-3 on aggregate.
Kelvin Andoh and Emmamuel Gyamfi were the goal scorer for Asante Kotoko.
