The Nigerian Army has restated its commitment to safeguarding humanitarian organisations to enhance adequate service delivery, restore peace and stability to the north eastern part of the country.

Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, made this known to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the end of a meeting with representatives of UN agencies and humanitarian organisations, in Maiduguri on Friday.

Adeniyi said the army deployed effective security measures to protect the organisations and provide enabling environment to enable them discharge their duties in the region.

He said his meeting with officials of UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other agencies was very fruitful and have mapped out various strategies to ensure easy delivery of humanitarian services to the region.

He said to fully assist and address the challenges, a committee has been set up to resolve all the areas where there are frictions or perceived challenges in the delivery of services.

“Let me assure you of the Nigerian Army commitments in the protection and ensuring that you succeed in your missions.

The Theater Commander further disclosed that the Army was partnering with many other organisations like UNICEF, National Primary Health Care Development Agency and local NGOs in the north east in ensuring the safety of women and children in crisis-ridden areas.

The meeting was attended by representatives of International Non Governmental Organisations (INGO), OCHA and local Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
