An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday remanded a painter, Tobi Kechiku, who pleaded guilty to membership of a secret cult called Eiye confraternity.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bukola Mogaji, remanded 24-year-old Kechiku in prison and adjourned the case until Sept. 6 for review of the facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 2 on Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos.
Perezi said that the police received formation that the defendant and some others were fighting at Ikotun; when they got there, the defendant and some others were arrested.
“They were arrested without weapons but the defendant made a confessional statement to the police that he joined the confraternity in 2018 at a village called Agodi in Abeokuta.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 42(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
