Afenifere Chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Dayo Adeyeye has called for the arrest and prosecution of the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kayode Olaosebikan over his alleged assault on a Youth Corper, Thompson Enobong, who was one of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Registration Officer in Moba Local Government area of Ekiti State.
The assaulted National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member with NYSC number EK/13c/1859 was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ido-Ekiti where he is receiving treatment.
In a release issued today, and signed by the Director General, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), Bisi Kolawole, the governorship aspirant called on the NYSC to protect its member by making sure that the commissioner was not allowed to escape justice.
He said the open assault on the Youth Corps member by the commissioner was a pointer to the kind of violence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the State will unleash on INEC Adhoc staff during the June 21, 2014 governorship election, adding that: “The police must show that they are capable of maintaining law and order before, during and after the June 21 election by making sure that Olaosebikan and his thugs are arrested and prosecuted.”
Adeyeye said; “If this could happen during voters registration, one can begin to wonder what these APC desperadoes will do to Youth Corps members during the election in June.
“Therefore, in the interest of Youth Corps members that will be engaged during the election, NYSC must not leave this matter to INEC to handle because the commission may treat it as it treated the case of its staff, Ojo Oluwafemi (25), Ajayi Gbenga (42), Oni Babajide (37) and Olusola Oladapo (41), who were bribed N180,000 by Mrs Anthonia Alaba Omonusi to void thumprinted ballot papers to void PDP votes in the House of Assembly election for Ekiti East Local Government Constituency II.
“It is on record that the four INEC staff were arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on a eight-count charge, which included ‘conspiracy to wit: alter the ballot papers used in the April 2011 House of Assembly election in Ekiti East Constituency II.’
“Oladapo was accused of collecting N180,000 from the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate in the election, Mrs. Anthonia Alaba Omonusi, out of which he gave N50,000 each to Ajayi and Oni, while Ojo got N30,000.
“Curiously, Mrs. Omonusi who was at that time the Caretaker Chairman of Ekiti East Local Government was said to be at large, and up till today, INEC has not deemed it necessary to tell the public what has happened to this case and why Alaba Omonusi, who is walking the streets free has not been arrested and prosecuted.
“Also, INEC has not said anything about its four staffs that were charged to court, and we are sure if this assault on Corper Thompson Enobong is left solely to INEC to handle, nothing will come out of it.
“NYSC must therefore protect its Corps member by making sure that the commissioner and his thugs are arrested, investigated and prosecuted.
