The Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, has warned fake journalists and media impostors to stay away from the National Conference that is starting in Abuja on Monday.
The council in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, stressed that while every Nigerian has the right to access information, people that are not journalists and with no functional media should not pass themselves off as journalists as the council has put mechanism in place to check such ugly trend.
In a statement by the Secretary of Council, NUJ FCT, Emmanuel Ogbeche, he urged delegates to be wary of those that accost them for interviews or chats, insisting that when in doubt, the delegate should make effort to reach the media house involved or any of the council officials.
According to him, many of the fake journalists have procured ID cards of credible media organisations so as to have easy access to delegates, while disclosing that the council’s anti-fake monitoring committee has liaised with relevant security agencies to stem the tide of fakes and impostors in the FCT, especially during the duration of the conference.
