Association of Nigerian Academics in the UK (ANAUK) will be honouring Oluremi Tinubu, a member of the Nigerian Senate with an award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Education and Empowerment in Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by Cllr Adedamola Aminu and Gbemiga Adeniji, ANAUK President and PRO respectively, the award ceremony is billed for Monarch Suite, Hilton London Metropole, Edgware Road, London, W2 1JU on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 5.00pm prompt.
This recognition is to appreciate her commitment to development of education in Nigeria and her poverty alleviation/empowerment initiatives. Her apprenticeship and vocational training for women and youth is of tremendous significance. Her alternative education initiative is targeted towards disadvantaged female.
The initiative provides an alternative to formal education whereby the female child who has lost out on education either through poverty, cultural/religious attitude to the girls, rape, abuse, forced marriage etc. has given second chance to many. Her New Era Foundation established the New Era Camp in Aja, Lagos. The Foundation provides opportunities to acquire interpersonal skills essential for life accomplishment. Equally note-worthy is her sustainable projects and support to small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs). Furthermore, through collaboration with other government departments and NGOs, she has promoted excellence in leadership and mentorship.
ANAUK is inspired by the need to give honour to whom honour is due and to appreciate the selfless service of Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Besides, we reckon that this award will serve as encouragement to other democratically elected office holders in Nigeria to deliver dividends of democracy.
This recognition and honour is part of our annual events to support education in Nigeria and to impact policy decisions and implementation in order to enhance sustainable educational growth and development.
