The police on Tuesday arraigned four men in a Karshi Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly attempting to steal from a demolished church site.
The police charged Mohammed Awal, Mohammed Suraji, Ibrahim Bala and Bello Hamisu with three counts of joint acts, criminal trespass and attempt to commit an offence of theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the complainant, Kabiru Abdullahi, who lives in Karu, Abuja reported the matter at Karu Police Station on July 22.
He alleged that the defendants conspired and trespassed into a nearby demolished church with intent to steal.
Adeyanju alleged that during police investigation, some tools were recovered from them.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 348, 95 and 319 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Anas Isah, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 29 for hearing.
