By Gracious Akujobi FC Taraba began their campaign in the Nigeria Premier League on a winning note by beating Nasarawa United one nil in a match played at the Jalingo Township stadium on Saturday.
The team’s goal was scored in the first half of the match through number 8 jersey, Abel Bobby. It was a connecting header from a free kick floated into the eighteen yard box by Usman Mahammed.
Though, the visiting team had the opportunity of opening scores when they were awarded a penalty earlier in the match but no 9 jersey, Ngomo Fabrice could not convert the sports kick. The FC Taraba goal keeper, Richard Ocheayi was at his best as he conveniently parried the spot kick. Every effort by Nasarawa united to get the equaliser was thwarted by the alert goal keeper and the defence line led by Nwokolo Amadi.
Meanwhile, FC Taraba Chairman, Tijani Babangida has expressed happiness with the first three points recorded by his team in their debut appearance in the 2013/14 Glo Nigeria Premier League season.
Speaking after watching his boys beat Nasarawa United one nill in Jalingo, Tijani said he was happy they have started the premier league on a winning note, stressing that their goal now is to ensure that they continue building on the result in their subsequent matches.
Babaginda however said that he was not too impressed with the performance of his boys despite the victory, saying that they would have easily over ran the Nasarawa team and score more that the one goal if his boys had been more offensive in their approach to the match.
“I am really happy that we got the three points in our first match in the premier league, but there is more work to be done by the coaching crew if we are going to sustain this victory. But I am a happy man today that we won this match,”
Also speaking, Nasarawa United Chairman, Iseec Danladi applauded the performance of both teams during the match saying that they both gave their best. He also applauded the performance of the Referees saying that they did not give undue advantage to the home team.
FC Taraba next league match is against Kaduna United at the Ahmedu Bello stadium in Kaduna next weekend and Babaginda is hopeful his boys can pick maximum three points in that game.
