) Team Nigeria’s Para Table Tennis athletes currently participating in the 2019 Para Egypt Open/Para African Championships in Alexandria, Egypt, have so far won nine medals.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the medals comprise of five gold, two silver and two bronze.
Nigeria is being represented by nine athletes in the competition that served off on June 24 and would end on Wednesday.
The athletes are Tajudeen Agunbiade class 9,Victor Farinloye class 8,Nasiru Sule class 5, Olufemi Alabi class 10, Ahmed Koleosho class 3, Isau Ogunkunle class 4,Faith Obazuaye class 10, Faith Obiora class 5,Francis Chukwuemeka class 9 and Chinedu Nick class 4.
The gold medalists are Agunbiade, Farinloye,Alabi, Koleosho and Obazuaye while the silver medalists are Ogunkule and Obiora.
The bronze medalists are Sule and Chukwuemeka.
The coach of the team, Sunday Oyebode, told NAN on telephone from Egypt that he was impressed by their performance in the single events.
Oyebode said the athletes played according to instructions and gave their best.
“The team events are still there for the players to fight for more medals. We still have high chances of getting more medals.
“I believe in them and their abilities and I know they are motivated and in high spirits to get us more medals,’’he said.
