Reigning NPFL Champions, Enyimba 3-2 defeat to underdogs Lagos side, Smart City, highlighted the major upset of the 2019 Aiteo Federation Cup Round of 32 games played across the country on Wednesday.
Similarly, it proved the end of the road for giants, Rangers and Nasarawa United who equally exited the competition in the Round of 32.
Rangers were pegged 2-0 by Lobi Stars, while Nasarawa United lost 1-0 to state rivals, Aklosendi.
But the highpoint of the Aiteo Federation Cup Round of 32 games on Wednesday was Rivers United’s comprehensive 3-0 win over Akwa United at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Keinde Adedipe opened the floodgate of goals 10 minutes after the start while Bright Onyedikachi made it 2-0 on the hour mark. Ossy Martins completed the rout with a quarter of an hour left to play when he dive-headed into the near post from a right wing cross.
Calabar Rovers also shocked Wikki Tourists 4-3 on penalty kicks after a one all regulation time scoreline.
