By Gracious Akujobi Former Super Eagles midfielder, Garba Lawal has lashed out at the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, for dropping Villareal FC striker, Ike Uche on the basis of being undisciplined.
Speaking with the media in Abuja, Lawal stated that it was totally odd for the National Coach to drop one of the best strikers on the reason that he is not disciplined.
Lawal argued that the player does not have such record at all in the National team, stressing further that the player would even not be doing well in his club if he is that indiscipline as being painted by Keshi.
“If you say he is indiscipline how come he has scored 12 goals in Villarreal? It is the duty of Stephen Keshi to get the players to behave the way he wants with the sole purpose of getting the best out of him”
Lawal, maintained that the world cup is not a child’s play as all participating countries must go with their very best leg if they plan to do well.
He noted that the nation cannot rely on the players, who have been sitting on the bench in their clubs to prosecute the world cup.
He spoke further, “The world cup is different, and you cannot do much if you are match-rusty. But I don’t know how the coach is thinking. If your players are not playing week in week out in their clubs it is going to be difficult.
“And Ike Uche that is scoring week in week out he said he is indiscipline? I don’t understand”.
Lawal, who is also a member of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee stated that there is very little they at the technical committee can do as they do not want to interfere with the job of the coach.
“Our job as the technical committee is to advise him; even the NFF board job is to also advise him. We cannot tell him you must invite this, you must invite that. But he takes the responsibility if he fails because he chooses the players himself. Me, I don’t believe in sentiments,” Garba Lawal said.
