Three FCT schools gets scholarship and cash rewards for emerging top at the National Children Quiz Competition.
The three schools namely Junior Secondary Schools Pasali, Peyi and Kwali, came tops in the competition among 18 other public schools.
The schools under FCT Universal Basic Education Board, received various cash rewards as they emerged the overall winner, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, respectively in the competition.
The Director, FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Adamu Noma, presented the schools to the Education Secretary, Dr Bala Liman, on Monday in Abuja.
He said the competition, which was designed to sharpen the skills of the students, was put together by the Queen Irene Onwuka Peace Foundation, with 18 public schools from other states of the Federation.
Noma said at the end of the competition, three FCT schools emerged victorious, carting away the cash reward of N1 million for the overall winner, N500,000 for 1st runner-up and N300, 000 for 2nd runner-up.
Receiving the victorious students, principals and teachers, Liman said, “the three schools’ achievements is a very impressive feat to reckon with and gives us a sense of pride as education providers, who have enhanced the students’ learning abilities’’.
He commended the students and their teachers for placing FCT in the limelight and assured of the secretariat’s support in motivating them by giving them scholarship for their various outstanding performances.
The secretary also appreciated the organisers for creating such academic platform for students to broadening their academic and extracurricular activities outside the school environment.
The founder of the Foundation, Queen Irene Onwuka, said it was her delight to embark on a charity project of showcasing the potentials of children especially from the rural areas whom most times were often neglected.
Onwuka, an ex-Beauty Queen of the Ambassador for Peace Nigeria 2013/14, said the foundation had been involved in many projects, which included providing school uniforms, sandals and other educational materials to schools from the six area councils.
She thanked the FCT administration through the education secretariat for giving the foundation opportunity to impact positively on the students and bringing out their potentials.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the cheques to the three FCT schools accordingly.
