It was a no contest match between Malawi and Mozambique in the First Round of the 2020Tokyo Olympics Africa women’s football qualifiers as Malawi thrashed Mozambique 11-1 in the first leg tie.
It will be surprising if Mozambique files out in the return leg which comes up almost immediately this weekend. Infact, it was more than a massacre as the Malawians went goals crazy in the encounter.
But it was not so easy for other countries as Nigeria’s potential opponents in the Second Round matches in August, Algeria laboured to beat debunte- Chad Republic 2-0 in Bilda in the first leg. The winner over the two legs will meet Nigeria.
Elsewhere in the preliminary matches, Gabon lost 0-2 to Congo Brazaville at home while Ethiopia beat Uganda 3-2. Mali walloped Morocco 3-1, Tanzania and Congo DR played 2-2 and host Botswana defeated visiting Namibia 1-0.
According to CAF schedules the return leg matches must be played on or before Tuesday, April 9.
