The Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mr Alex Okoh has disclosed that the Bureau has sponsored a number of bills aimed at providing efficient and effective transport system in the country.
The bills which the Bureau has worked on in the past fifteen years included the Railway Bill; the Federal Roads Authority Bill; National Roads Bill, the National Transport Commission Bill, the Inland Waterways Bill and he Ports and Harbor Bill.
According to a statement by Amina Tukur Othman, BPE’s head of Public Communications, Okoh stated this when he received a delegation from National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) led by its management consultant, Mr Asipta Umar on a study tour to the Bureau in Abuja.
Represented by the Director, Infrastructure and Public Private Partnership Department of the Bureau, Mallam Sanusi Sule, the DG further informed the team that BPE was open to learning at all times.
In a paper presented by the Head, Strategy and Planning Unit of the Bureau, Dr. Terhemen Andzenge, the DG explained that a good transport system would facilitate trade and economic growth through transparent and streamlined administrative procedures, based on modern management and information technologies.
Okoh also said it would encourage the private sector in the financing and operation of transport-related services, promote efficiency and safety through robust technical and economic regulation among others.
The leader of the delegation said the aim of the study tour was to get an insight into the transport policy of the country and to get a feedback from the Bureau’s previous participants at the Institute.
He thanked the Bureau for the synergy with NIPSS in the past years during which it sponsored some of its top executives to the institution to broaden their managerial skills.
