For those who are fanning the embers of disunity, the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero has advised them to have a rethink as Nigeria must remain united and indivisible.
Speaking when President Goodluck Jonathan paid him homage at his palace in Kano, the Emir assured the President that traditional institution would remain resolute on the indivisibility of the country.
The Emir who has been sick for a while since the assassination attempt by gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram, just returned from a medical trip abroad.
Speaking in Hausa language, Ado Bayero commended the Jonathan administration’s effort in maintaining peace and unity in the face of security challenge. He assured the President of his support and that of his Emirate.
Speaking, President Jonathan who was received at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport on arrival by the Deputy Governor of Kano, Abdullahi Gandoje, said he was in the City on a private visit to pay homage to the ailing Emir.
He said he appreciated the Emir’s effort at ensuring peace and tranquility within and outside his domain, wishing him good health.
The President also used the opportunity to call on the Royal father to continue to make his wise counsel available so as to guide the political leaders.
The Governor of Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was present at the palace spoke with journalists, saying the Emir’s message was supportive.
“The position of the Emir is very clear. He is always praying and advice for peaceful co-existence. The Emir said this is one country, one indivisible nation with one President.
“He said they will continue to support the President as he continues to work and create an environment in which every Nigeria will feel he belongs.
“I am sure that message is encouraging and it a message of support, prayers for peace and development and also for the unity and serenity of this country,” Sanusi said.
