Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo debut game for Shanghai Shenhua ended on a sour note as the club went down to a 4-0 home loss to champions Shanghai SPIG in their opening day clash at the Hongkou Stadium on Friday.
Ighalo who linked up with Shenhua from relegated Changchun Yatai
last month played the entire duration of the game .
The hosts went behind late in the first half when former Inter Milan star Freddy Guarin conceded an own goal.
Chinese forward Lu Wenjun doubled Shanghai SPIG ‘s lead five minutes after the hour mark.
The home team went further behind when former Chelsea midfielder Oscar scored the third goal for his team 12 minutes from time.
Odil Akhmedov made the scoreline more emphatic when he got the fourth goal two minutes from time.
Sone Aluko also ended up on the losing side with his new club Beijing Renhe going down to a 1-0 away defeat to Shandong Luneng.
Aluko started the game and made way for Xiu Xinyu three minutes from time.
