Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has called for calm and peaceful conduct during and after the Feb. 16 general elections.
Oyetola, in a statewide broadcast, on Thursday, in Osogbo, also appealed to youths not to allow themselves to be used to disrupt the electoral process.
The governor also urged the electorate to shun vote-selling and other acts capable of jeopardising peaceful and credible electoral process.
“The interest of our dear country should be paramount in the minds of all and sundry with a view to ensuring that the project called Nigeria does not fail.
“As the nation is preparing to mark her 20th Anniversary of return to Democracy, it is only apposite for all and sundry to appraise the level of development achieved so far.
“Also to take steps to ensure that the state and the nation at large are in a safe custody,’’ Oyetola said.
The governor also advised political actors to play by the rules, shun vote-buying and other illicit acts that were detrimental to the success of the electoral process.
He appealed to candidates to accept the outcome of the election, saying that anyone who might be dissatisfied should approach the election petition tribunal rather than resorting to violence.
Oyetola called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, local and international observers to perform their duties dispassionately with a view to achieving a free, fair and credible electoral process.
