Flying Eagles head coach,  Paul Aigbogun,  praised the efforts of Burundi in their first game at the Africa U-20 Nations Cup in Niger and stressed his team will strive to improve in subsequent outings.

The former champions beat their spirited opponent 2-0 at the bumpy Stade Seyni Kountche Stadium pitch. on Saturday.

The Burundians   managed to contain the Flying Eagles in the first period which ended goalless but fell apart after the break.

Nazifi Yahaya broke the deadlock ten minutes after the restart with a superb header to ease the pressure on his side before Maxwell Effiom secured the win  with a stylish finish past the keeper 20 minutes from time.

“We had a lot of trouble before getting the win.”Aigbogun who once managed Nigeria Professional Football League teams,  Warri Wolves told reporters after the game.

“It was not an easy match because Burundi played well and we had a lot of trouble before we won.

“We have certainly beaten Burundi but recognize that our group is very strong.”
“It is for us now to take the games one after the other without neglecting any team.”

The Flying Eagles will face the Amajita of South Africa in their next game on Tuesday
