Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi has assured Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the All Progressives Congress Governorship candidate and his running mate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat that the people of Ikorodu will not betray them in their quest for the leadership of Lagos State.
The monarch whose people welcomed Sanwo-Olu and his team with music, dance and wild jubilation on Monday when the APC candidate visited the Palace for a consultative meeting said that Ikorodu people will vote for APC.
Other traditional rulers in Ikorodu division who converged on the palace of the paramount ruler unanimously endorsed and pledged their support for Sanwo-Olu and Hazmat ticket for the 2019 Governorship election in Lagos.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, Oba Kabiru Shotobi urged the APC governorship candidate to make provision of more infrastructure and improvement of social services to Ikorodu which is one of the five divisions of Lagos a priority if elected.
“The people of Ikorodu are behind you, but we want you to take the state to a greater height,” Shotobi said.
Oba Shotobi, who read out a long list of infrastructural projects that the Ikorodu division urgently requires, said he has a personal conviction that the duo of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat will do a good job when elected because they have been part of successful governments of Lagos State adding that they will not need to be learning on the job.
“We don’t have to sweat so much because I know the two of you personally and I know that you understand what our needs are in Ikorodu division. Ikorodu is one of the five divisions of Lagos. Existing infrastructure need to be expanded to accommodate increasing population and we need new ones. We want improvement on our public schools and health facilities among others.”
A political leader, Olorunfunmi Bashorun promised the APC candidates massive votes from Ikorodu saying the division is an APC domain and the leadership has started ground work towards returning a huge margin for Sanwo-Olu.
Bashorun, however, wants the Sanwo-Olu government when inaugurated next year to consider four commissionership slots to Ikorodu division.
In his response, Sanwo-Olu promised the monarchs that he would run an all-inclusive government.
The APC candidate said that he would hold regular town hall meetings with stakeholders in all the local government areas in the state.
He added that he would partner with local government councils in Ikorodu and dialogue with the communities to have firsthand information on their needs and ensure those needs are met.
