Prof. Stephen Onah, Director/Chief Executive, National Mathematical Centre (NMC), on Friday advised participants at a Postgraduate Foundation Course to have positive attitude toward learning and teaching.
Onah gave the advice at the end of three weeks training on “Probability, Distribution Theory and Stochastic Processes” for postgraduate students of mathematical sciences in Sheda, Kwali Area Council, Federal Capital Territory.
Represented by Prof. Funmilayo Saporu, coordinator, Statistics Programme of the centre, Onah urged the participants to change their approach to delivering lectures in order to make learning interesting.
“Your approach to your students and other lecturers must change.
“Your experiences in this training must reflect in lecture delivery approach,” he said.
He further advised the participants to always utilise every given opportunity to improve on their knowledge of the course so as to become better lecturers in future.
He, however, pledged improvement on grey areas for better education delivery.
Mr Godwin Kper, a lecturer with the Department of Mathematics/Statistics, Benue State University, said that he had been enriched and had acquired a broader knowledge of the course.
Kper, a participant, appreciated the management of the centre and urged that the training be sustained.
Mrs Joy Eneh, another participant from Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, noted that the training gave her an insight into other areas of the subject.
Also Ms Cynthia Eleke, an assistant lecturer with the Department of Statistics, Abia State University, commended NMC for the “enriching programme’’ and suggested the provision of better services in the training.
News of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 31 lecturers drawn from the six geopolitical zones of the country participated in the foundation course.
