Deepak Kamath, a renowned Indian biker and tourist , says he plans to visit 75 countries on power bike ahead of the celebration of India’s 75th independence anniversary on Aug.15.
Kamath disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry on Thursday, on the sideline of the Lagos State familiarisation tour to tourism sites in the state.
He descibed himself as the first Indian to travel on the African western corridor.
He said he had visited 36 countries so far, 10 of which were African countries- Egypt, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola, Republic of Congo, Guinea, Kenya and Mozambique.
“I am travelling on bike across 75 countries to celebrate India’s 75th independence anniversary, I have visited 36 countries already, 10 of those countries are African countries.
“India’s 75th independence anniversary is for August 15th, by that time I would have been returning back to India and would have covered 75 countries,” he said.
Kamath said that he had used the Bajaj brand of power bike which had not developed any mechanical fault since the commencement of the journey.
He described Nigerians as hospitable, nice and fabulous individuals, adding that his favourite Nigerian foods were Amala and Ofada rice.
He said that he wished to visit Nigeria again, as he urged the Federal Government to work on ensuring that citizens enjoy good roads, seemless electricity supply and access to subsidised fuel.
“I love Nigerians, they are hospitable people, I don’t wish anything changes in Nigerians but a lot must be changed as it regards diesel prices, power supply and the poor road network.
“By the time I return to Nigeria later, I want improvements in all these areas.
“I noticed every household in Nigeria uses generators, I wish Nigerian government provides the citizens with the right amount of electricity and improve on the road condition,” he said.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, commended Kamath’s efforts and his demonstration of patriotism.
“We hope to see you again in Nigeria after this, bring in your people to come and explore our enormous tourism potential,” she said. (NAN)
