A 72-year-old woman claimed she has suffered abuse at the hands of her husband since they got married in 1966.
She applied for a protection order.
Georgina Jaravaza told the Harare Civil Court that she has endured years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband, Samson Jaravaza (77). She said Samson was even not giving her money for her upkeep.
“He married me in 1966, and I have been suffering since then.
“He doesn’t take care of our family and rather squanders the money we get from rentals.
“We have eight children together and one is mentally ill,” she said.
Samson shot back saying Georgina left him alone in the rural areas and went to stay at their Warren Park house after they had a misunderstanding about their children in 2018.
“I never laid a hand on her or threatened to kill her. Why would l beat up an old lady?
“Why does she want to throw me out of our matrimonial home when we’re legally married?
“All that she has written in these papers are lies,” Samson said.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira dismissed the application saying Georgina was clearly seeking maintenance and had no evidence that she was being abused.
