Members of staff of the Office of the Vice President on Wednesday visited some orphanages in the FCT to mark Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s 66th birthday.
Osinbajo, who was born on March 8, 1957, turned 66 on Wednesday.
The orphanages visited are the FCT Unity Children’s Home, Gwarko Gwagwalada, and the Abuja Children’s Home, Karu.
The members of staff were led by Mr Ade Ipaye, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President and Aso Villa Chaplain, Pastor Seyi Malomo.
Items donated included bags of rice, bags of salt, cartons of noodles, condiments, packs of soft drinks and food, packs of detergents, blankets and groceries.
The interaction with the children featured quiz competitions and book readings after which prizes were given to pupils that got correct answers.
The children also sang birthday songs and prayed for the vice president, while wishing him well in his future endeavours.
Speaking with State House correspondents, Ipaye said it had become a tradition in the Office of the Vice President to visit orphanages on the vice president’s birthday.
“On his birthday in 2015, 2016, when he said instead of getting me presents or giving me anything of the sort, let us put all the money together.
“I think that was his 60th and that has gone into starting a school for internally displaced children in Maiduguri where he is right now.
“Then, among the staff, we thought okay, we can’t look for money to buy presents for him rather on his behalf, we will support the orphanages; so we have been doing that annually.
“What we do is get money together among ourselves; ask the orphanages what they need and we procure those materials and come to present them on his birthday which we are doing right now,’’ he said.
On her part, Mrs Janet Ogah, Administrator, FCT Unity Children’s Home, said everybody was excited and grateful over the vice president’s gesture.
She described the vice president as a wonderful and loving father.
“The FCT Unity Children’s Home is saying thank you very much; and we will live to remember this day; he is a good daddy; he is a loving father.
“Everybody is excited and happy and we are saying, thank you daddy. May the Lord grant you with good health, long life and prosperity,” she said. (NAN)
