Five other Governors that had hitherto been loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan and the Bamanga Tukur-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to declare for the Abubakar Baraje-led new PDP next week, it emerged Wednesday.
The National Publicity Secretary of the new PDP, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze who disclosed this in also said the splinter group had also requested President Jonathan to shift forward the reconciliation meeting slated for October 7.
It will be recalled that President Jonathan in company of the party’s BoT chairman, Tony Anenih met with the G7 Governors a couple of weeks ago and agreed to resume talks on October 7 as agreements could not be reached on all the issues raised by the aggrieved governors.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the new PDP met at the Adamawa State Government Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, resolving to seek the postponement of the peace talks so as to allow its key members to perform this year’s Holy Pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia (Hajj).
“Our National Chairman, Alhaji Baraje, and most of our other key members, including most of the G7 Governors and the five other Governors that have indicated interest to join us by next week, as well as members of the National Assembly, Former Governors, and business moguls, are billed to perform the Hajj, which is already in operation.
“Alhaji Baraje, the Progressive Governors and other stakeholders performing the Hajj have been mandated to use the opportunity offered by the Holy Pilgrimage to pray for the restoration of peace and unity in our great party, PDP, as well as in our dear country,
“NWC billed for October 5th is hereby called off until our National Chairman comes back from the Hajji.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience(s) in any form this may cause our beloved President, party faithfuls and Nigerians’ as praying to our God should be the utmost part from us particularly now knowing very well that with God the elusive peace in our party and country can be achieved,” the statement issued by Eze reads
However, the new PDP spokesperson did not name the five Governors he claimed will join the group next week.
