The new President of the Soroptimist International, Asokoro, a non-governmental organisation, Dr Nkiru Onyia has promised to embark on a campaign to promote good health, well-being and quality education of the girl child and women in general.
Dr Onyia who made the pledge during her installation as the third President of the association in Abuja on Sunday, said the group during its two years’ tenure will also be visiting hospitals with a view to paying the bills of indigent women and girls.
“We shall donate hospital materials to hospitals and patients; we shall donate incubators for premature babies delivery materials to reduce the rate of stillbirths, and mortality rate in Nigeria. Visit and donate food stuffs to motherless babies’ homes, indigent women and widows”, she added.
The President noted that in order to achieve these stated humanitarian objectives, the Soroptimists are therefore soliciting the support of well meaning individuals and groups.
She said, “you will reason with me that it is impossible for my team to achieve these without you, I hereby call upon you my good friends, brothers, sisters and colleagues to support us in these humanitarian activities in order to actualise our dreams and promote the good health of women and girl child”.
Soroptimist International is a global volunteer and non-religious movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls, with over 80,000 members in 133 countries.
The Asokoro Club of the Association came into existence on 23rd June, 2018 with 36 “Best Girls” and had Dr Victoria-Mary Pillah as the Charter President.
Members of the new Executive Council include, Phil Abiamuwe-Muwete, President Elect; Fabronia Orya, Vice President; Josephine Nnodim, Treasurer and Ngozi Okirika-Egwuekwe, Media and Publicity.
