A traditional ruler from Edo State has been abducted by unidentified assailants, who also killed a motorcycle rider during the attack.
The monarch, His Royal Highness Friday Ehizojie, was kidnapped in a forested area between Ubiaja, near Rest House Junction, and the Udo community.
Reports indicated the attackers ambushed the motorcycle the Onojie was traveling on, fatally shooting the rider before taking the ruler.
In addition to the Onojie, five other individuals were reportedly abducted, with one victim managing to escape captivity.
Moses Yama, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the abduction and stated that a report had been received concerning the incident, involving the monarch and a 21-year-old man among the victims.
Yama explained that the Onojie, traveling as a passenger on a motorcycle, was ambushed by unknown attackers on a remote route, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist and the abduction of the traditional ruler.
In response to the situation, Commissioner of Police Betty Otimenyin has ordered the swift deployment of tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force, to the area.
The operation, which aims to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators, is under the direct supervision of the Area Commander.
