A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of three civil servants in Makurdi correctional centre for allegedly stealing a 33-KVA transformer accessories belonging to Benue State Examinations Board.
The civil servants, Iho Terfa, Emmanuel Agbe and Philip Jime, with different residential addresses in Makurdi, were charged with criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Kelvin Mbanongun, who did not take their pleas for want of jurisdiction, adjourned the matter till July 4 for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Insp Godwin Ato, told the court that the Executive Secretary of the board, Mr Ade Ishorbo, reported the matter.
He alleged that Terfa, a security officer with the board, conspired with some persons to steal from the board.
“On April 3, the defendants, all staffers of the board, without lawful authority, conspired with one driver in a white 404 pick-up van and vandalised the casing of a 33-kva transformer, valued at N650,000.00, donated to the board by the state government.
“The defendants carted away the total transformer engine/accessories,” he said.
Ato further stated that the defendants were arrested during police investigation and that they had confessed to committing the crimes.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 97, 353 and 289 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004. (NAN) READ ALSO:
