Twenty-six track and field athletes will represent Nigeria when the 20th Africa Senior Athletics Championships get off the blocks today in Durban South Africa.
That last batch left the country Monday night while 15 came in from the USA and 3 from London.
Athletes were selected based on their performances in the Golden leagues and recent times posted.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung had assured the Athletics Federation of Nigeria that it will do all within its ambit to ensure that the athletes attend the African Championships despite paucity of funds.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria is hoping to use the African championship to get more qualifiers for the Olympic Games and to assess the strength of the team.
Nigeria will be taking part in the sprints, relays, quarter mile, discus, shot put, triple and long jumps.
The Championship runs from June 22 to 26, 2016.
